Application:
Cooling Tower/Industry Classification: Automotive
Background:
An
automotive supplier of interior door panels was experiencing
problems related to significant ingress of debris into its
cooling tower. The debris was due to on-going construction
of the facility as well as nearby development projects.
The
plant had installed "Y" strainers prior to each
of its moulding machines to protect cooling jackets and
cooling manifolds from blinding with debris. The manufacturer
was continually cleaning the strainers, which contributed
to machine downtime as well as increased labor costs that
led to the decision to install an automatic filtration system.
Full flow filtration was recommended in order to fully protect
the entire circuit.
Solution:
A four pod, System 2000 was installed. The system is
filtering the plant's entire flow and is protecting the
molding machines and a small chiller plant, plate heat exchanger,
and air compressors. Due to plant expansion, and an increase
in demand for water, the filter's flow rate has increased.
Application Details:
Filter
Specifications:
Flow Rate: 1,200 gpm, Filter: System 2000, 4 pod
Micron Rating: 125 micron, Clean DP: 1.5 PSI
Results: The filter unit has operated without downtime
for over two years. During this period, the "Y"
strainers, while still installed, have not been cleaned,
and maintenance of the cooling water has been significantly
reduced.
